all the stuff you probably should know for Spidermark au lol
MARK LEE: At the age of 17, Mark Lee was bitten by a radioactive spider, and it's been three years since. Now, he's in his junior year of college as a literature major. After being bitten, he received the typical spiderman powers of super strength and being able to stick to surfaces, while also finding unique qualities of his own. He naturally produces fluorescent green light from his blood or bodily fluids when they are exposed to oxygen and can only be seen at night. (He's basically a glow stick.) His web shooters collect the sweat he produces in his suit and infuses into his webs making them glow as well. He also has enhanced vision and night vision. (He doesn't need to wear glasses anymore but, he just likes to!!!)
- Mark lives in the upper area of Queens, NYC during high school but moves out of Queens to live with Johnny and Jaehyun while he attends university at Pratt institute along with Hyuck and Renjun. He currently lives in Brooklyn.
- The only people who know Mark's identity as Spiderman are Johnny, Jaehyun, Sicheng, Taeil and Donghyuck.
- Renjun gave him the nickname 'glow stick'.
- Mark was bitten and given his powers because Donghyuck dared him to touch the green glowing spider. It wasn't a good idea.
- In this universe, the Spiderman franchise exist! Due to the well known fictional hero Mark decides to take the name dedicated to the comics.
- Mark was orphaned during middle school when his parents died.
- His older brother received custody of him after their parents passing, but a couple years later he passes away as well during what you can say be 'Mark's Origin' story to getting his powers
- After his brother's passing, Johnny and Jaehyun take him in and house him.
- Donghyuck designed his suit.
- Mark dreams to write music and be a producer. He used to want to be a singer until he realized it wasn't practical.
- Although he gave up being a producer/singer he still writes and composes music in his spare time. He writes about his experiences and feelings but recently he’s been writing about Renjun a lot.
- Mark has a setting in his suit that shuts off the luminescence
- like his suit, his headphones are luminescent. if he wears them as spiderman they're neon green but normally they're black
- he carries around black medical mask to cover his glowing mouth at night (wow this detail was in here before covid lmao)
- Mark gets a voice changer implemented into the suit (similar to peter in the homecoming movie) after he sees renjun at school cause he doesn't want to get caught
- Sicheng has made contacts for Mark that can block out the green in his irises that naturally glow in the dark.
- He was a nerd in high school but essentially had a 'glow up', physically not mentally lol cause hes still a nerd at heart.
- High school friends originally being Hyuck, Jaemin, Jisung and Jeno but in College befriends Lucas, Chenle and Renjun. (Maybe add Hendery, Xiaojun and Yangyang?)
- He's basically been bullied by his younger friends all his life so rip

RENJUN HUANG: Renjun Huang is a sophomore that attends the same university as mark. He's a printmaking major, he loves to do graffiti on the side, and tends to be found on random buildings in obscure areas, spray painting.
Mark, on one of his night patrols, finds Renjun in the action and tells him to stop because it's illegal. Renjun runs away, and Mark chases after him. He surprisingly loses sight of the boy. Later on, Mark is shocked to meet Renjun at his own university as an underclassmen of his. They eventually become friends only to have the younger boy pick on him constantly during his time on campus. Throughout his daily night patrols, Mark ends up meeting Renjun as well but as spiderman, to try and get him stop vandalizing buildings.
Mark soon gets invested in getting to know Renjun, so it becomes a recurring thing for the hero to meet him everyday as normal mark lee and as spiderman. Mark develops a relationship with Renjun as two different people. Mark lee is a bumbling, awkward dork to Renjun, But spiderman is cunning, funny (and maybe a little cool) to him. Renjun Develops feelings for spiderman and Mark does so for Renjun, but what can he do when Renjun doesn't know Mark and Spiderman are the same person.
Renjun facts/info:
- Renjun does the spray painting as an outlet + is really closed off to other people.
- Renjun's dad is a police officer, so even if he gets caught spray painting he won't get into that much trouble.
- Renjun confides in mark when he's Spiderman cause he doesnt know him, and he doesn't feel like he's committing to anything when he tells Spiderman about his life.
- In a nut shell Renjun is like the MJ to Mark if he were Peter. No surprise there lmao
MINOR CHARACTERS:
Jaehyun is a grad student and is a communication media major. He has a job working at a news station and tends to be able to find out info for Mark when it comes to crime reports to the station or leads of news to media outlets.
Donghyuck is Mark's childhood best friend since elementary. Hyuck partially blames himself for Mark being a stressed ass college student who now has the burden of spiderman on his plate; as if it wasn't hard enough. Its a lot so hyuck is always there to make scenes in school (pre-college) or excuses to make Marks life a little easier when he needs to leave.
Sicheng is a 'friend' of Jaehyun (more like they both like each other but don't know how to just date) who is also a grad stud as an engineering major. He creates all of Mark's suit utilizes when he finds out Mark is spiderman.
Taeil is an actual doctor at the hospital Johnny recently started working at. Johnny forms a really close bond with the young doctor he really looks up too (and sorta just kinda likes him). Johnny reveals Mark is spiderman when Mark comes home one day injured and it’s out of Johnny’s hands to know what to do besides reach out to the only doctor he can trust with Mark’s secret.

Mark figures out he has powers
Mark tells hyuck but Mark says he does not want to deal with it so he hides it and tries to live like nothing happened. Hyuck pulls out the spiderman comics. Tries to convince Mark that if he has the power to shouldn't he be doing stuff like this and help people. Mark ignores Donghyuck, claiming "it's a stupid idea." and goes on with his life as he normally would.
Things go on uneventfully for a while until Mark comes home one day to see blood all over the floor and house a mess. Mark scurries around in a panic to see his brother has been severally hurt while he was out at school. While Mark calls the police he notices the window open and signs of a broken entry that trace outside. Mark hesitantly tries to follow. He catches the glimpse of the culprit but the person disappears too quickly. Mark is at a loss about what to do so he gives up following the person.
It’s his brothers funeral and Mark tells hyuck he thinks he saw the person who might of did it and hyuck ask Mark if he’s gonna do anything about it but Mark says "No, nothing's gonna change what happened."
How Johnny and Jaehyun find out about Mark's powers: It skips forward to Mark moving in with Johnny and Jaehyun. Johnny and Jaehyun happen to see Mark fucking hop out the window of their 20 story building, and they panic only to see Mark standing on the wall saying “I CAN EXPLAIN...”
How Sicheng finds out about Mark's powers: While Mark is trying to cook, he tosses the food in the pan really high and he gets food on the ceiling, Sicheng and Jaehyun walk in and Sicheng sees Mark on the ceiling trying to clean up his mess with a wet rag.
- Meeting Sicheng snowballs into Mark actualizing the idea of him taking on the role of SpiderMan. Mark explains his powers and how they're similar to Spiderman and Sicheng ask him if he has webshooters and Mark tells him he would not know how to even make them so Sicheng offers if he can give it a shot.

All these narratives are close to what would have been, some more than others. Things would change if I did follow the story through in full. Parts like how Renjun finds out Mark's identity or maybe written kiss scenes don't really work on a timeline I like but the way they are portrayed in the scenes/the topics they talk about would have most likely stayed. These are all originally out of order in post on my twitter and AO3 but heyyy you get them in chronological order here! :] (also some parts are new? and not fully written but most are.)
'FIRST' ENCOUNTER :
Mark goes into the printmaking studio to look for a place to put on his suit secretly since there are no classes in there today at that hour but he is surprised to meet a sleepy Renjun for the first time (as Mark lee instead, he has met Renjun a couple nights ago on the roof of a building in Brooklyn and recognizes him immediately.)
Renjun squints at him. "You're not a visual arts student?"
Mark panicked. "Uh, wait? How did you know."
Renjun scoffs. "I didn't but now I do."
Mark panics even more before sprinting out of the room.
Renjun blinks before he mutters. "What a weirdo." proceeding to pass out on the three chairs he put together as a makeshift bed once again.
3 MONTHS (after they've met):
Is the suit stuffier than usual? Mark's not entirely sure but he's not feeling too comfy in his everyday hero wear. Not that he ever considered it comfortable in the first place. He has to admit, the lack of baggier fabric wrapping his body makes him extremely embarrassed. Hyuck told him to get over it, because he's a superhero now, but he originally hoped he could have avoided the attire. Especially in situations like right now. When Mark's sweating buckets in this skin tight suit pressed against another person; it's a fairly gross feeling.
"I don't think I like doing this." Mark mutters.
"Well you didn't have to do it glowstick, you're the one who insisted."
The masked boy can only narrow his eyes, his frown can't even be seen, but this should be enough to give away his annoyance. "Your plan of getting up here could get you seriously hurt."
The smaller boy tightens his hold on the hero's neck as he reaches his other arm out with the can of yellow spray paint. "Graffiti artists do things like this all the time, I would have been fine."
Currently Mark is hanging about 30 or so feet from the ground by the thread of his web. He wouldn't be so nervous on his own but having Renjun in his arms shaking cans and spraying walls makes him wearily.
Not to mention the distance, he's not performing very calm under the closeness of the younger boy. The boy that has secretly won his affection despite the nonstop teasing or insults thrown his way. Mark should probably hate it, he acts like he does in the youngers' presence, but in reality he can't lie. He constantly thinks about the teasing before he sneaks out every night to visit, in fact he almost looks forward to it. This is their routine and maybe, it makes Mark's heart feel sorta funny, in a good kind of way.
"You're impossible." Mark sighs, adjusting his hold on Renjun's waist and on the string of web in his hand.
"You didn't have to help." Renjun studies his handiwork before looking back at the hero's face. "You don't even like me doing this, why help?"
"Cause, I know I can't stop you. You're stubborn and you'll do it behind my back even if I told you no. Doing this with me, at least I know you'll be safe."
Renjun's expression, originally irritated, resolves to a blank one.
Thank god Mark is wearing a mask cause he's very much blushing at the eye contact.
"W-what?"
Renjun shakes his head before turning away to paint again. "You're way too nice glowstick."
Mark gulps, he doesn't know why that comment makes him nervous "I mean, I am a superhero..."
"To me." Renjun grips his shoulder quite hard. "You're specifically too nice to me."
5 MONTHS:
When Mark’s feet hit the ground, he releases the tight grip on his web and tumbles as he slows down from the landing.
He really shouldn't be this clumsy at this point. Why does this day always get to him?
When he regains his balance he doesn’t even bother to go into his routine of pestering someone to stop vandalizing property as per usual. He just makes his way to a clear open spot, tosses his bag to the right and next his body to the left; falling onto his back to close his eyes.
He’s so damn tired.
Although even with his eyes closed he can still feel it. Someone was waiting for him. Renjun is definitely waiting for him to say something. He can tell by the amount of times he hears the spray paint can shake. The pea ball bouncing around produces clicking sounds of metal, maybe way more than it needs to. Renjun overshakes the cans in his hands when he’s restless.
Renjun stops rattling the paint to stare at the super hero laying still on the ground. “You’re really not gonna stop me today?”
“Nope.” The hero exhales. “Go for it. Let me know if you need help. “
Renjun nods, slowly turning back around to stare at the brick before him. He lifts his can momentarily only to bring it back down to his side.
With a sigh Renjun places his can on the concrete. He walks beside the other boy’s body and plops down to sit cross legged beside his head.
“Okay. What’s bugging you glowstick?” Renjun pokes Mark’s cheek. The fabric rubbing against his skin bothers him.
Mark grabs the small hand to stop the poking. “Just tired today.”
Renjun doesn’t pull away from the hero’s hold. Instead he stares at the black glove and exposed fingers that wrap around his palm. “You’re never this tired to stop me.”
Renjun can’t see Mark’s eyes glance back between his view on the sky and the younger boy’s face. He’s trying to think of an excuse but he really can’t. It’s the one day of the year he doesn’t feel good being himself. It's the one day of the year he wasn't being the hero behind this mask when he needed to be. He can’t help but think about what he could have done sooner if he decided to do this. To be the hero everyone needed. He told himself there was nothing he could do now but, he can’t help but think about the possibilities. If only he could have saved the last family he had. If only he didn’t ignore this. Would mom and dad be disappointed that he let him die? God that one hurts him the most to think about.
“Glowstick?”
Mark turns his head. “Yeah?” It’s soft in response. He’s hoping it doesn’t come off as shaken as he’s feeling on the inside.
Renjun hesitates before he thumbs at the hand holding his own. “You can talk to me.” Renjun leans his head back to stares up, mirroring Mark, taking in the New York sky. It’s absent of natural star light but replaced with those of artificial ones from planes, buildings or whatever the city obnoxiously shines into the distance.
“I know, it’s not ideal. Considering I’m the one who depends on you for all my problems. Never the other way around” Renjun nods his head back down to hover over Mark’s face. “I want to try and be here, for you like you are for me.”
Mark isn’t ready to have his view of the sky stolen by the boy above him. He feels like his vision might be getting blurry, although it shouldn’t be possible when his eyesight has been heightened past any normal human being's those three years ago. He doesn’t know if the lenses of his mask dilate at the sight of Renjun like his actual eyes do, god he sure hopes they don’t. He can’t help but want to lose himself at the way the younger’s eyes look so warm, while a sign from a building nearby reflects into them, giving off a pink hue to his dark irises. The way his bangs fall off his forehead to hang down. Mark wants to so badly push his body off the concrete or reach out his hand to hold the other's cheek but he doesn’t move, he doesn’t make a sound, he’s not sure if he’s even breathing.
6 MONTHS:
Mark lands on the building and stares at Renjun from behind as he spray paints.
Renjun stops for a second and Mark hugs him from behind.
Renjun jumps nervously. "Gah, What the fuck, glowstick you scared the shit-"
Mark turns Renjun around and engulfs him in a hug again him.
Renjun is pressed tightly into the hero's suit confused. His previous tone has now softened. "Hey… what's wrong." Renjun pats the back of his head.
"Just scared." Mark mutters.
Renjun stands quietly patting his head.
Mark expects Renjun to ask him why, maybe question why the hero who has to put himself in plenty of dangerous things is scared right now but Renjun doesn't. He just continues to pat his head.
Mark squeezes Renjun tighter. Renjun doesn't stop but he presses his face into where Mark's ear would be.
"I'm here, It's okay."
Mark closes his eyes. He mutters a thank you. Renjun only replies with a hum.
Mark doesn't pulls away but when he loosens his grip he can feel Renjun press a kiss onto Mark's temple.
Mark's a little shocked but he doesn't point it out. He's not sure if it actually happened. He holds Renjun longer for the rest of the night.
8 MONTHS:
Renjun is sitting on Mark's lap and he kisses the outside of the mask where Mark's mouth would be. Mark's hand slides under Renjun's hoodie and touches the burning skin on his sides and back. Mark thinks about how he can barely touch Renjun, only with his finger tips. They can't do anything more.
Renjun presses another kiss against the mask and Mark can't help but press his lips back. He can feel the pressure of them but nothing like the actual soft skin on Renjun’s lips, he can only imagine the real thing. Mark would usually be okay with this but he can't today. He so badly wants him. Mark doesn't realize how badly Renjun wants him too.
"I want to kiss you." Renjun says pressed against the fabric. Breath warm and sweet. "Please."
Mark is such a stickler for these kinds of things. He usually has so much self control. He knows better, he knows what's at risk, but he can't help but want to give in for the pretty boy upon his lap.
The chance to be revealed, his voice to be heard, there's so many things that could go wrong but all he can think about is wanting to be so much closer than this. He wants to feel Renjun and he knows he'll never be able to do so as his normal self, as Mark Lee. He can't let Renjun go.
"I want to." Mark's breath feels short and caught in his throat. "I want to kiss you too."
Renjun pulls away to stare at the mask. He cups the hero's face looking at him breathless. "What do you want to do? It's your call, okay?"
When Mark seems to go silent for quite sometime Renjun runs his hand to caress the hero’s cheek. “We don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to.”
Mark can't help but melt at the sweet tone Renjun uses. He knows Renjun is saying this nicely to not try and pressure him, but the way he asks just makes him want to even more.
Mark stares almost lost. "We-" He stops to think one more time. "We can."
Renjun smiles and nods. "Tell me if you want me to stop, okay?."
Mark smiles back reaching to hold the hand on his cheek. "okay."
Renjun slowly maneuvers his left hand down Mark's neck to find where the fabric of his mask ends around the base. He slips his thumb beneath the slight bunch of cloth to lift it slowly over his neck.
Mark catches his breath when he feels his lips exposed to the night air. Renjun gets to Mark's nose when Mark grabs at his hand.
"N-" Mark pulls his mouth into a thin line. Renjun can hear his voice. His normal voice now. He can't speak.
Renjun nervously lets go of the fabric and places his hands on Mark's cheek. "I'm sorry…"
Mark only nods his head no before mouthing. 'You're okay.'
Renjun's worried expression softens. He stares at the exposed skin of the hero's face and runs his fingers along it. Mark swears he feels his middle finger trace the mole of his cheek but he's hoping he's imagining things. Renjun finally runs his thumb across the bottom of Mark's lips, slow and gently. Renjun uses light pressure against the skin, watching Mark's lip sink in and press back against his finger with no delay.
"I can really kiss you?" He says exhaling, his voice sounding a bit shaken.
Mark nods, bringing up his own hand to rub the one on his cheek.
"Okay…" Renjun says leaning in.
Mark is so nervous, he wants to close his eyes completely, but he resists the urge. Through lidded vision he sees Renjun hesitate. Lips hovered over his own until Renjun presses ever so softly against Mark. Mark doesn't move. He let's Renjun take control.
Renjun doesn't let their first kiss linger but coming back for the second isn't a long wait either. Renjun presses just as softly as the first. This time moving lips slow as he's testing the way Mark will react to his own.
Mark leans forward to press softly back. It isn't till the 2nd time Renjun pulls away that Mark moves to chase after. Renjun let's out a nervous sound in surprise and Mark can only kiss harder into the younger boy's lip when he hears it.
Renjun moves his hands from Mark's cheek back to grip the loose hairs peeking from underneath the mask. Mark places hands on the smaller's back pulling him into his embrace even more.
When Mark pulls away Renjun whines and Mark quickly kisses to meet the other boy again. Renjun takes Mark's lower lip in between his teeth and lightly sucks at it.
When Renjun lets go Mark licks into the youngers mouth.
Renjun sighs before roughly kissing Mark once again. Mark can't help but let out a sound.
The way Renjun is so warm, his lips unimaginably soft and sweet. He's so lost in the boy's embrace. He's wanted Renjun for so long. He can't even begin to comprehend any of this. Renjun wants him. He is kissing him with the same urgency Mark is. It feels like a dream. Mark must be a fool to be so in love with a boy who doesn't even know the real face behind this mask. Mark doesn't even care. He just wants to protect Renjun for as long as he can. He never wants to let him go.
Mark is so lost in the way Renjun kisses him that he can't stop himself before it happens.
"Renjun-" Mark sighs out.
Mark stiffens at the sound of his own voice.
Mark freaks out, pulling away, covering his mouth.
Renjun red lipped and confused stares before he realizes. "I- glowstick, I didn't hear you, it's fine-"
Mark quickly pulls the mask back down. "God, I shouldn't have done that. That was so stupid of me."
"To kiss me?" Renjun looks hurt and confused.
"No! Renjun not you, I just-"
"It's just me glowstick. No one knows we're here. It's okay!"
Mark backs up shaking his head 'no'. "I- I gotta go, I'm sorry."
"Glowstick please." Renjun begs. "It's just me." He says broken and small.
Mark glimpses one last time at Renjun before he runs off the building.
Renjun stares in disbelief at the dark silhouette swinging into the night. He was so warm seconds ago. Now he's left alone.
Renjun shuts his eyes tight. They sting from the feeling. The weight in his chest is heavy. He should have never said he wanted anything.
9 MONTHS:
Mark breathes in the cold air. It's March now but it's still so nippy out. He may be superhuman now but he still can't stand the harsh temperatures. Why couldn't the bug bite provide him with more mundane benefits instead of sticking to walls or eyes glowing like he's some traffic light. He can't stand the cold. It'd be nice if he could.
He stares out a little longer as his body aches.
Man, he should probably be in a hospital right now. He's definitely broken something, maybe he's bleeding somewhere too. He's too at a loss to even think about it. He wants to see him again.
It may have been weeks since they spoke as these two, as Spiderman to Renjun. It's not even the time they'd usually meet but he's hoping he'll be here. He's partly hoping he won't show too. So Mark can get over himself and admit defeat. He can't have Renjun. Their story just can't work out like that, it'd be too perfect.
"Glowstick?"
Mark coughs on nothing but air when he hears him. This is too good to be true.
"Holy shit. Are you bleeding!"
He hears running footsteps on concrete pavement.
He turns around slowly to meet eyes with the underclassmen. To his own surprise he sees no resentment or anger, just concern.
Renjun isn't quite dressed warm enough for the weather with just a hoodie, lacking a hat or scarf. Mark frowns. "You're gonna get sick dressed like that."
Renjun stares at him in disbelief before letting out a dry laugh. "Are you serious? I'm not the one bleeding! Why are you worrying about me right now."
Renjun rummages through his bag in what he thinks is an attempt to find something to press against the gash on Mark's side. Renjun pulls out a piece of cloth or blanket he can't quite make out right now. His mind is set on other things.
"Cause I'm in love with you."
Renjun freezes. Almost like the cold New York weather has caught him in it's frost.
They sit silently and Mark isn't sure if he should say anything. All the pain welling up in his body has passed the point of irritation now. He can't even think properly to begin with, the only distraction he needs is Renjun.
"You're-" Renjun looks at Mark glassy eyed. "You can't be serious. How do you even expect me to handle that right now?"
Mark feels his form crumbling from inside. "I'm sorry…"
"No- glowstick." Renjun's breath cuts him short. "Fuck, you're so stupid."
Renjun holds Mark's face with his other hand and leads his head forward to leave a kiss on his forehead. "You're so dumb, you're fucking bleeding-"
Renjun pauses to meet Mark’s eyes through his mask before he sighs. "I hate how much you make me worry."
Renjun grabs Mark's hand to hold the fabric cloth himself to stop his own bleeding. "I used to absolutely hate the thought of you pestering me but I missed you so much."
Mark is listening so intensely but he doesn't feel like any of these words are real.
"I really wanted you to come see me. To nag me or to tell me to stop doing bad things but you haven't been." Renjun leans forward to rest his head on Mark's. "I think about you so much. I want you so badly."
Mark stares at the reddened cheeks of Renjun. He can't tell if it's from the cold air or something else causing his skin to flush. It's such a pretty color on him though.
"I love you too, okay?"
Mark lets out the breath he's been holding in. Renjun loves him?
Mark hasn't fully processed the statement but he dumbly nods anyway against Renjun's head.
"Even with the mask off? Do you think you'd love me?"
Renjun's brows furrow at the question. "Of course you idiot." Renjun leans to kiss over where he believes to be the hero's mouth. "Who you are under that mask isn't gonna change how I feel. I promise."
Mark feels lightheaded. "What if I'm not who you expect it to be?"
Renjun looks dazed pressing another kiss onto the mask. "Trust me glowstick, I can handle it. I'm not running away, okay?"
Mark nods slowly. He can't believe he's doing this.
The hero pulls away from Renjun's forehead. Renjun blinks but soon realizes what's about to happen.
"Can you?" Mark points with his free hand to his mask.
Renjun hesitates for a second and stares. He slowly nods his head reaching out for where the fabric of his mask and suit meet.
Mark can feel the cold air hit his skin slowly throughout his neck as Renjun's small hands roll the fabric up.
Once Mark's mouth is exposed Renjun stops to stare at Mark's bruised lip. Renjun lends forward to kiss at it. Mark's surprised but moves his free hand to cradle Renjun's neck into the kiss, tilting his head just right to deepen it.
When Renjun pulls away he hovers over his lips with a laugh. "I love you."
Mark feels his chest burn at the words. Everything is so close. Renjun's gonna know the truth. He can only hope, he's enough. That Mark Lee is enough for him.
"I love you too."
When Renjun's lips leave his own, Mark shuts his eye's tight. Like a child pretending if they can't see something then it isn't happening. He can hide like this.
Mark feels almost sick when the cold breeze envelops his whole face. The mask is off. Renjun can see him.
Mark doesn't open his own eyes still. They're shut so tightly. He doesn't want to see the possibility of disappointment or even disgust on Renjun's face. That Renjun has to be met with the clumsy upperclassmen he makes fun of on a daily basis. The kid who seems to drop all his books on the way to his class at least once a day. The kid who, even at 20 years old, still embarrassingly called their professor 'mom' one lecture. The kid who seems so plain, dorky and can't carry on great small talk without awkward laughs and pauses. He's scared this version of him isn't enough.
Mark feels Renjun trace his face. Fingers finding jaw until he reaches his chin, tipping it up.
Renjun giggles.
Mark opens one eye to see the pretty boy smiling ear to ear.
"Hi Mark."
He opens his eyes fully to see a thrilled Renjun, tilting his head cutely.
"Are… aren't you surprised?"
Renjun hums in thought. "No, not really." He leans forward to kiss lightly at Mark's lips.
"I knew it was you for a while."
Mark can only blink in disbelief as Renjun continues to pepper kisses on his face.
"Wait, what!" Mark is in a panic. "You knew? You didn't say anything!"
Mark's brain momentarily freaks out as he processes the thought of Renjun willingly kissing him knowing well who he is underneath.
Renjun kisses Mark on his lips again and laughs. "If I said anything you would have freaked out like you are right now!" Renjun squishes Mark's face between his hands. "It wasn't hard to figure out, I pay attention to you. Not just Spiderman you, but Mark Lee too."
Mark studies the boy as he stares at him with so much adoration.
"I've always been kissing you knowing. I've been doing this cause it's you. I want you Mark, not just Spiderman, if that wasn't clear."
Mark feels like he's short circuiting. "I- this is real?"
Renjun laughs once again. He slots his lips into Mark's to kiss him soft and lovingly. When he stops he hovers over them with a smile. "It's real. I love you Mark."
Mark exhales hard and laughs. "It's so weird to not hear you say glowstick."
Renjun snorts and pinches Mark's cheek. "I mean if you like it so much, I can?"
Mark shakes his head, quickly pecking Renjun's lips. "No, Mark is fine, Mark's good."
ANYTIME AFTER THEY START DATING:
Mark stirs at the knock on his window.
Isn't it like 1 am, who the hell is outside?
Obviously, Mark is fully capable of protecting himself but he still gets just as nervous at suspicious sounds at night from outside the apartment as he did when he was a little kid.
When he stares at his curtains he can see a small figure.
Huh, familiar he thinks and he doesn't necessarily feel any danger. His senses usually are right.
When he makes his way over the window to open it, he chuckles when he's greeted with the smile on the other side.
"Glowstick, let me in."
Mark smirks stepping aside so the younger can climb in through the window. "I'm not even in my suit right now."
Renjun lifts one leg at a time, now sitting on the edge of the window sill as he squints one eye tapping it with his finger.
Ah, Mark forgets his eyes do that. He knows exactly what Renjun is trying to explain with the wordless gesture but he finds the action so cute in the way his boyfriend looks doing it.
"You know, for me being the wall climbing superhuman between us two, you sure do sneak up my building and through my window a lot more than I do."
Renjun kicks off his converse before landing on his sock covered feet off the sill. "It's 'cause I'm fun, you're not."
Mark can only shrug and smile. "That's true."
Renjun stares at Mark expectedly. "Can't see you too well."
Ah, he forgets that too, the lights are off. Mark doesn't go to turn on the lights for the other boy but instead grabs him by his waist. "I mean, I can."
Mark can see the shocked expression on Renjun's face as he grabs him quickly. "H-hey, that's not fair."
"Not my problem." He mutters, pressing his lips onto the younger's own.
"Mark-" Renjun whines before he's cut off by the kiss.
Mark peaks to see the satisfied expression on Renjun's face as he gently kisses him. Thank god Mark can see how pretty Renjun is despite the lack of any light. Yeah, it's practical for being Spiderman but Mark likes all the perks that are Renjun related. He just, really likes Renjun.
When Mark pulls away he sees Renjun laugh. A slim trail of glowing saliva connects their lips and Mark feels embarrassed by the sight.
"Well I can, definitely see that." Renjun giggles.
Mark shuts his eyes flustered. "My fault, sorry it's kinda gross."
Renjun shakes his head still softly laughing. He comes back to connect their lips again but this time a little rougher, licking into Mark's mouth as he parts. When he pulls away again, a similar neon green trail follows.
Renjun smiles. "I kinda like it."
Mark can't help but bite at his bottom lip, frustrated. Renjun is too much for his heart sometimes.
Other notes:
The stuff written below is mostly for me to ramble about the narratives above. Some of the things I go on about here are questionable if its important or not! If anything, it's a lot of me going over Markren's relationship.
Month 5's scene takes place on the anniversary of Mark's brother's death. In the original version of this narrative I elude to the topic way more but a friend of mine pointed out that with no context it wouldn't make too much sense to leave that stuff in there since this info was not previously said before anywhere. This journal dump on the AU is really the first mention of Mark's brother so I thought I'd go over this detail now! Anyway this moment is supposed to mean quite a lot to them. Maybe this would be their turning point? The event is supposed to be jarring since all previous Spidermark and Renjun interactions probably would have consisted of snarky remarks or playful banter. And if anything, the way Renjun and (Spider)Mark have established their relationship so far is that Renjun dumps his worries onto this seemingly weird stranger (who is also the local hero or whatever) so they never established if Mark could confinde in Renjun like Renjun does for him. This is probably the point in the story Mark realizes he doesn't just 'like' Renjun, that he might just be in love with him. I think out of all the narratives this one would have been unchanged to the story I had in mind. I would've needed to mull over the details and timeline to figure out where it would have been.
Month 8 would have been very different but at the same time not really. In the narratives here it kinda suggest when connected to Month 9 that after the kiss, Mark and Renjun wouldn't be on speaking terms for a couple of weeks until the event in Month 9. So in a perfect world where I wrote this AU forreal, then Renjun wouldn't have found out the way he does in here at all haha. I had something different in mind but I'll get into that in another part of this journal dump. The thing that spiraled into this idea I wrote about above is just me really liking the concept of Mark and Renjun indulging in kisses like this... they don't 'really know each other' (that's a lie though cause Renjun fucking knows it's Mark, like there isn't solid proof but he just knows okay!) but they want each other so bad so they don't care. Mark is willing to kiss Renjun like this because he can keep hiding who he is while still having Renjun in a sense. It's an act on impulse and in a bit of desperation. (I WAS SO DOWN BAD WHEN I WROTE THESE U DONT UNDERSTAND.) If I knew how to have self control I swear it would have not been this fast of an impulse for them. Them kissing like this would have still happened this way but I would have paced it. Like their first kiss wouldn't have been so intense and they'd probably go on to kiss on a couple more occasions before Renjun really took off his mask and found out. Anyway, this is what happens when you let an impatient Markrenist with no self control write. It created a timeline of SpiderMark story that shouldn't exist but now it does cause I wanted to satisfy my needs LMAO.
Random thought that is not important, but Month 9 should not be in March. I think I wanted to write it in a cold setting since it was probably winter-ish/almost spring for me at the time of writing. If this were better timed, Mark would meet Renjun in the beginning of Fall semester of their term. So Month 9 should be May and their first encounter would be in August.
In the established relationship Markren writing, it sprouted from what I think was an off hand mention by my friend who was reading Mark's character page. He asked me "if all his fluids turn green does that mean-" I didn't let him finish that question but I still think about it. The answer to it is yes, BUT IDK (bro mark this is so embarrassing). But this is why I think about green saliva kissing LMAO. There's even this idea I have that I would have love to draw that inspired the last narrative. It's this:
The scene is Mark and Renjun kissing:
Johnny walks towards Mark's room and he hears rustling before walking in to see the two of them at an awkward distance of each other just chillin on the bed. He flicks off the lights and Renjun's lips are glowing green and Mark and him groan in embarrassment
If it had dialogue it'd be like:
Johnny: Hey Mark have you seen my camera-
Opens door unexpectedly and sees them awkward and disheveled
Mark: haha... uhh no?
Johnny flips off the lights.
Renjun and Mark in unison: uuuugH
Last thing is my thoughts on Markren dating in this. I probably have way more thought on them finally getting together than I should have... The main story isn't supposed to include them together that much but man do I think about established SpiderMark and Renjun a lot. They most likely start dating in the summer of that year so they no longer have classes. From there, Renjun slowly decides to make himself a constant presence in Johnny and Jaehyun's home. Renjun does really find his own home uncomfortable anyway so taking refugee there is nice for him. Mark notices when Renjun does start dating him that Renjun is out less tagging buildings but instead he spends lots of time in their apartment. When Renjun was only friends with Mark, he wasn't so paranoid but once they get together he's a lot more nervous when Mark leaves to do his job. Renjun from this point spends his nights with Mark in his room now. So when Mark gets alerts in the middle of the night, Renjun wakes up, watches him leave and waits for Mark to get back before he can go back to sleep. Mark insists Renjun has to stop doing that, he's been Spiderman for years so he doesn't need to worry but Renjun finds he can't sleep without Mark anymore.
Renjun: I can't believe Mark turned me fucking soft.
Chenle: You were always soft on the inside, Mark just makes you less emotionally constipated on the outside

Renjun reading the actual comics on Mark's couch contemplating the fact that he might be either gwen stacy or Mary Jane.

The 'Actual' Story
I swear, this might be the peak of incoherent rambling because this isn't anything I had too clearly planned for myself. So I'm gonna apologize now if you expected more LOL but anyway here we go haha.
Spidermark AU was supposed to be a general Mark story that over the years became a Markren story. When I started almost?? 3 years ago (dear god) I always had the intention of making Renjun Mark's romantic interest but that was like a side plot at the time. (As you can imagine, it did not end up that way because all I did was avert my interest away from the plot to spend time developing their relationship in story and it only got worse the more I got into Markren lmfao) So going over story sans Markren is gonna be quick.
I thought it over a lot and to be honest I never actually figured it out LOL. Like?? What would be Mark's villain or his drive in the story? It was very hard for me to not only think: "brrrr very general bad guy fucks up his life". I was also torn because this isn't supposed to be Mark's origin story. I didn't want to bring up the idea of him 'getting into Spiderman's shoes' cause he's essentially already been in it for 3 years. Mark knows what he's doing at this point so there's no place for that kind of plot. There is the concept of going into ideas of Mark's passed brother but I always liked the concept that Mark doesn't want or need the closure. I wouldn't want that to be something that's dug up but it's fine that it's referred to in passing. I think one idea that I almost went off with was an NCT member being an antagonist. Taeyong gets a mention in Mark's bag items so at that time it was gonna be Taeyong, like he knew Mark as a child and later somehow becomes the antagonist role (but Taeyong is so nice, wtf past me? Does he even have any motives to be bad!! Probably not but he would look cool af). Well, that's all I had towards a real plot idea. I know it wasn't a lot since I struggled with it so much hsdjsk
Anyway when I realized I most likely couldn't write a general Spidermark story I was very much leaning towards it being an overall Markren story.
Renjun is supposed to be a troubled kid similar to Miles Morales (Into the Spider-Verse Ver.). He's bright when it comes to his studies but he doesn’t put in the effort to want to be there in school. I'm not gonna go through his whole character but I really love good kid turned into a slight menace Renjun who spray paints buildings knowing very well he'll get away with it cause his dad is a cop. Hence why Mark and Renjun meet cause Mark tells him "thats bad!! stop doing that." and Renjun just says "leave me alone weirdo" and keeps doing it anyway lol. That's how they get into the weird relationship of 'Mark bothers Renjun everyday to stop him from vandalizing but maybe he realizes Renjun underneath whatever that angst is, is a good kid and he worries about him and his home life.'
They go on with their relationship like this until Mark opens up to Renjun too (This part is exactly month 5!). This is where their relationship shifts a bit. Renjun is less of an asshole on purpose and shows Mark he does care about him. Once Renjun starts letting himself be himself around Mark (both Mark and Spidermark! I imagine on campus not as much but the still get development there.) then Mark lets his guard down, confiding in Renjun.
This then leads to u know... sharing their first kiss and then... even more kisses while Mark half wears the mask. I imagine a part of Renjun promises himself that he will wait for Mark to tell him his identity under the mask before he does anything rash (spoiler he breaks his own promise to himself lmfao). I think before they kiss the first time Renjun comforts Mark that he'll never pressure him to tell him the truth but no matter who he is underneath he won't run away. Although Mark believes Renjun a big part of him still doesn't want to disappoint Renjun if he found out it was really Mark underneath. After this event, they kinda have this unspoken agreement they are kinda together, kinda not. They're both too scared to talk about it so they just roll with it. From then on they kiss a couple more times when Mark is Spiderman and get rather close. (what is this mark and renjun, just kiss the bro until one person confesses first, okayyyy) At one point they almost kiss outside of their night meetings together as Mark and Renjun normally, on campus or some off hand time they're together. Mark then proceeds to feel some type of way about it cause he assumes Renjun still doesn't know he's Spiderman but why does Renjun seem willing to kiss Mark now as his normal self. So Mark is like "Well shit. Does Renjun like me as me or does he like Spiderman because Renjun shouldn't know we're the same person." Mark then starts thinking too hard about how when Renjun first started to tell him his problems as Spiderman that he only told him because it was like telling some rando who doesn't know him or mean anything to him, there was no personal strings attached. So Mark is starting to be convinced Renjun just indulges in the affection with no strings attached too... that maybe it never meant anything to Renjun because he doesn't know who he is! No mark ur just stupid, he knows they're both u and he's in love with u in general-
ANYWAY im literally on my last leg rn as I've been typing this journal for 5 hours :') but i digress.
What is planned from this point on is that Renjun does end up kissing Mark one day when they hang out with their college friend group even though they aren't supposed to be anything but friends. It doesn't even click in Mark's head right away because he just kisses Renjun like it's normal for them before he realize. It is not.
Mark feels hurt and confused at this point (which is so stupid. MARK HE KNOWS. god why did i write this au.) so he avoids Renjun. Renjun knows very well he fucked up because he was not supposed to kiss Mark like that. He wants to talk to Mark to explain himself but doesn't really know how to since he's still not supposed to know (AH). This is where the events in the narratives I wrote get pretty similar. They are supposed to see each other to talk as Spiderman and Renjun but they do something stupid so instead of talking they kiss AGAIN (like the idiots they are. I know there is so much kissing in this but bare with my brain. It only knows one thing and its Markren kissing brrrrr). Mark feels very conflicted so he avoids Renjun from here on out (similar to 9 Months, no talking term happens).
The details get foggy for my brain here, but what differs when Renjun 'finds out' to my other writing and this one i had planned is that Renjun is supposed to tell Mark he loves him first, not Mark. It's probably in the heat of some moment where Mark gets hurt. Renjun is in class when he sees a live on the news of Spiderman. Renjun tries to ignore it because that's Mark's job, he'll be fine, right? Then most likely some bystander films Mark getting severally hurt and Renjun freaks out, leaving class and heads to the area the video is filmed in. Renjun finds Mark hurt and knows he can't call for just anyone to help or Mark's identity could get found out if they try to treat his wounds so he give in and calls Johnny. Mark has passed out when all this happens so when he comes to the first thing he sees is Renjun who engulfed in a bone crushing hug. Mark is then like NO. WAIT UR NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE... Renjun then tells him he's always known it was Mark. Mark is surprised but Renjun is like... ur not good at hiding it, besides I'm also in love with u so like its not hard to tell when I pay attention to u. Maybe this would have been super dramatic when he finds Mark, like Mark almost fucking dies and Renjun tells him he's in love with him and nothing would change that even if he knew who was under the mask. From here mayhaps there would have been a short period of them... officially getting together, etc. but I'm not entirely sure in the details how I'd end. Their would probably be some coming clean and explain to Mark that he did not cheat on him with him (thats so dumb, he's kissing Mark either way, im laughing) and, yes renjun knew, but yeah. Spidermark and Renjun are in love but they're stupid and in love. That's it!!!
